Week 8 [03/03/2025 - 09/03/2025]: What I have read this week...

What I have read this week...

I am back once again to share with you what I have been reading.

1: French!

Yes... I am still continuing to grow my knowledge of the French language. I want to get to a point where I can speak French and understand it. I will put it like this... If I go to France I want to be able to adapt and integrate into their society on my visit. When visitors come over here, people expect them to just speak English as if it is a first language. Why should we not try and learn a bit of another language. After all, French is a common language. I am slowly on my way to 500 days of learning French! I will still be here for the weeks to come...

2: The Autograph Man (2002) by Zadie Smith.

Because I am yet to finish this novel, I wanted to make sure I got to the end of it.

3: Palestine leaflet.

When I was out and about, someone gave me a leaflet regarding boycotting companies that support Israel. There was also a website and Instagram link from the BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) which is a Palestinian-led movement launched by 170 Palestinian organisations. I picked up a few extra to give to people I know who I thought might benefit from having a look at them. Some companies that support Israel, are companies that many people probably use, but are unaware of those said companies supporting Israel. Do feel free to check out the BDS movement.

4: Instagram. (Again)

Still the same story... I like to be in possession of all the facts before I comment on something. Especially when it concerns politics and social issues. But I follow trusted people/sources which I cross reference with other sources. Not everyone can be wrong.  Unlike other people, I want to know what I am talking about with the right information because otherwise you could say something wrong. It was misinformation that led to the far right rioting that happened in this country. But then again, who knew that? Who went and found that out? That saying of "it's not who you know, but what you know" rings true a little here. But you need to know good, honest and loving people in my opinion.

5: The Mirror.

I read an online post from The Mirror, which I do not normally read. They are left wing leaning so I did not mind reading the article. It was about the first trans man who got pregnant and had a baby. Some of the comments though were so harsh and hateful... I expect someone reading this will call me woke. But so what? That's ok! At least I have woken up.

6: The Guardian.

I saw the front page of The Guardian the other day and read a little bit of the front page to see if I wanted. Left wing journalism is right up my street. I saw the price and decided not to. However, I will point out that their journalism independent and free from commercial bias. There is no influence from wealthy billionaires or shareholders from other companies. This is a good thing.

7: The T.V Guide.

Earlier tonight I looked at a program and read the little synopsis to get an idea of what was to come.

I hope I fascinated you with my reading list for this week. Let us see what next week brings!

Until then...

Thomas.
