What I have been reading this month.

Welcome to my blog people. Now towards the beginning of the month, I announced that I would not be doing a weekly Sunday post of what I have read each week. Instead I stated that I would do one post at the end of the month to give in an overview in some of what I have been reading during the month. This avoids having repetitive posts and allows me to focus on creating content for you that you can enjoy reading. So...

Here I am going to delve into some of what I have been reading this month.

1: French.

For those of you who have been checking out my blog week in, week out then you will be aware of these posts. You will be aware of what crops up on these posts... I have been reading, listening, typing, speaking and responding to French as I learn the language. I am slowly on my way to having achieved 500 days of practicing my French. I have less than a month to go.

2: Waitrose Magazine, 'May Edition'.

There are a select few reasons I go to Waitrose. One of those is for this incredible magazine. Now some supermarket magazines are small, some you might have to pay for, some are packed with a lot of variety and some just want to flash their recipes. Even though Waitrose charge, you can get it free with one of their MyWaitrose cards - which makes sense to have one. Now the magazine always has a lot to offer from what's in season to even a little questions/chat with a celebrity at the back page.

For those not wanting a MyWaitrose card or to pay £3.75 for the monthly magazine then I have seen a free newspaper in store alongside a selection recipes. The recipes do change each month and I often find something to get along with my magazine.

3: "Found Wanting" (2020) by Douglas Stuart.

I read this short story by author of the month, Douglas Stuart. I thought it would be nice to sit down one afternoon with a cuppa and a short story. This was the one I chose.

4: Shuggie Bain (2020) by Douglas Stuart.

For me, I knew for a while now that I wanted to read Stuart's debut novel, Shuggie Bain. I started reading it ages ago but never got to finishing it. This month I started a fresh and have been reading the novel, which is almost finished. I will not spoil it though. But be sure to check back in the comings if you want an impression of what it's like.

5: Release the Beast (2021) by Bimini Bon Boulash.

Bimini Bon Boulash, who you may be aware of from Drag Race UK series 2, brought this book out back in 2021. It has sat on my shelf for a long time and I never found the right moment to read it. Until now that is...

6: "Poverty, Anxiety, and Gender in Scottish Working-Class Literature" (2020) by Douglas Stuart.

I discovered this essay that Douglas Stuart had written and thought I'd give it a read. Some of the books on there did capture my interest. Perhaps in the future, I will be reviewing one of the books.
