What I have read this month...
To end the month of March I am giving you my monthly revealing of some stuff I have read in the month.
1: My French.
As always reading French words is a part of my daily French lessons which has seen me learn that 'Couchon' is French for 'Pig'. I am still going strong with it at over seven hundred days now. I have no plans to stop it until I finish the course and am confident I can understand enough of it.
2: Rain (2009) by Don Paterson.
As Don Paterson has been author of the month for this month, I started off by reading his 2009 poetry collection Rain. Do have a look for the review of the collection from earlier on in the month.
3: Transport information.
When I need to use buses, I will. I often check bus timetables online just to see when buses are. Often if I go further afield I like to make sure I do not miss the latest buses I can get to ensure my connection for the next bus I am going to be getting on.
4: Scottish Poetry 8 an anthology edited by Maurice Lindsay et al.
I read this anthology as I wanted to read a mix of Scottish poets; I wanted diversity. I reviewed the collection towards the start of the month so you read what I really thought of the collection. Search for '1970s' in the tags if you get stuck and cannot find it!
5: Social media.
Corruption, deceit and lies often get splashed across social media with people, pages and groups trying to expose the villains in society. I do sometimes get posts coming through about good things that have happened in the world. At least there is one good thing about using social media. Honestly, I only use the platforms I use to find things out from people, pages and groups I trust. That and my want to express my opinions and views to those I am 'friends' with for example.
6: 40 Sonnets (2015) by Don Paterson.
This was the second collection of Don Paterson that I had read for him being author of the month. This is a review for this collection as well as Rain (2015) which I already mentioned; have a look.
7: Leaflets.
They keep appearing in the post, I went to an event where there were several useful leaflets there. Sometimes it does seem that they are never ending.
8: My chess.
Alongside learning French, I have been learning chess. The lessons always have things I need to read that I then need to do. I have not been going anywhere near as long as my French but I do like to try and do both every day if I can.
9: Texts, texts and even more texts.
Lately everyone has been texting me a lot... I am unsure why but hey, I am here for the texting pile. If 'pile' is the right word in this context...
10: The Arctic (2022).
This is the third and final collection by Don Paterson of which I read and reviewed. You can get an insight into my thoughts of this collection by checking the review on my blog page here. It was the post from the previous Friday, a week ago.
That is a small selection of stuff I have read throughout February. Wait and see what March brings as we move into Spring and begin a new theme of the month for the next two months.
Until next time,
Thomas.
