New books coming this year...
Every year brings new things. One of those things are books and this year will of course be no exception. Today I will highlight some of the books that are due to come out this year which I am looking forwards to.
1: Miriam's Full English by Miriam Margoyles.
Comedian Miriam, who has described herself as a woke dyke is very, very funny. I have seen her on television and I have some books by her that she has written. I think Miriam is a great celebrity because she talks sense. Miriam is just an entertaining person so I will hoping to get this for my birthday or Christmas this year or next. The book is expected on the 3rd of September this year; she is also going on tour to support this.
2: John of John by Douglas Stuart.
Scottish author Douglas Stuart is back with his third novel. This is after he won the Booker prize in 2020 with his debut novel Shuggie Bain, followed by Young Mungo (2022); he also has short fiction published too. I am looking forwards to picking up his third novel as I have the first two and have read some of what Douglas Stuart has published.
3: The Memoir, Part Two by Cher.
I love Cher's music and I think she is a decent human being, which cannot be said for everyone. I have The Memoir, Part One (2024) so naturally I want to get part two when it comes out in November this year. I decided I would wait until I had all the memoir "parts" that there are before I commit to reading them. This is because I want to read them all in one go. You might question my decision but it makes sense to me...
4: A Hymn to Life by Gisèle Pelicot.
This fourth addition to the list has already come out, having come out last month. However, I included it as a highlight to the year. What that woman went through was far beyond horrible but she was a inspiration to us all. For her to publicly question why she should feel shame and make the statement that shame must swap sides is powerful. She is true though in saying this because the perpetrators should feel shame, disgust and guilt! Never the victim! I look forward to reading this courageous woman's memoir.
5: Heartstopper: Volume 6 by Alice Oseman.
The final instalment in the Heartstopper series is coming and I have become a fan. I started collecting the books after someone recommended the television series to me. Funnily enough I have not watched the television series yet as I wanted to read all the graphic novels first. For those of you interested, the book comes out on July the 2nd.
6: Bitter Melon by Liv Little.
Liv Little is a journalist who's first book Rosewater (2023) was sexy, funny and heartwarming. I have reviewed so do have a look at the review. You can search by tags such as LGBTQIA+ or BIPoC which both apply to the book. Ever since I tore my way through Little's first novel and I discovered there is a second one on the way, I have been eagerly waiting. Still... on the 22nd of October, Bitter Melon is released out into the world.
Now this of course is not every new book release this year. This is just a selection of new books due to come out this year that I happen to want! I like how most of them are coming out later on in the year, nearing Christmas time. Do comment if there are any books that you are looking forwards to.
Until next time,
Thomas.
