Hello all. For today's post, I am going to delve into the origins of the crime genre. You might be wandering by whom did the crime genre start with? How long has it been around? Let me tell uncover the truth...
It was in 1841, that Edgar Allan Poe published the short story “The Murders in the Rue Morgue” in Graham's magazine. This is considered the first modern detective story. Allan Poe was well known as fundamental in the Gothic horror genre but was lesser known in his role starting modern the detective story and crime genre. Alongside the rise in police forces, the crime genre became popular. Since then the genre has grown to be more widely enjoyed by readers with authors well known authors including Agatha Christie, sir Arthur Conan Doyle and James Patterson to name a few. That is the crime genre came about.
